Roughneck Spiral Post-Hole Auger 6" is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit Before I bought this I was going to buy a petrol version to dig a few dozen holes in heavy clay but fortunately hired one first and took it straight back as it wasn't up to the job. I then bought this....WOW!! The purpose of tools is to save you time and money and this fits the bill. I've now dug enough holes with it to highly recommend it, even if the price does look a bit steep. As others have pointed out you will save money on postcrete as it digs small holes. I found that in heavy ground you have to do a little bit at a time and then rock it back and forth before pulling it out. It'll go through medium sized roots, but you'll need a recip or similar for big ones. My only, very minor, gripe with it is that the two wing nuts on the handle are a bit flimsy and come loose a fair bit. If you want to dig post holes buy this!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time This is the biggest load of rubbish I've ever bought, it struggles to even break the ground, absolute waste of time, I'm taking it straight back for a refund

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very effective Slices through London clay, easy through soil, but needs some help with bricks, flints, etc. But it is man enough for the job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makes life easy When doing our front fence we had to negotiate very hard ground, tree roots and a lot of holes to dig ! Using this auger made life so much easier. In a matter of minutes you have a hole at a good depth. With 2 people the job is effortless and if you were working solo you could probably manage as well. The starting spike makes it easy to get a straight line of post holes as there is sufficient length on the spike to avoid any hard ground movement when you start to turn it. Versus hiring one this was well worth the investment as will make putting in a deck easy as well.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok but not great The current reviews are far too generous. The tool is great on wet soil with no stone but this was really struggling on stones that were no more than 2" big. I got this one because I thought the price might reflect the reviews but I done 24 post holes and I used my pole spades more then this. Handy to have but expensive for what the results were.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Post Hole Augur This made the construction of a perimeter fence an awful lot easier, would recommend it highly!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from does what its designed for Ok, so bought this largely on the previous reviews. It works really well, as others have mentioned it struggles with large stones, which we had to remove by hand. But it does dig a nice circular hole and did speed up putting the fence posts in, so I am pleased with the purchase. I think the only thing that lets it down is the price, just strikes me as a tad expensive for what it is.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It Does what its supposed to The key line in the description is can be used for many soil types, at this it is very good, but give it harder stoney ground use the big spike to break up. But whole lot easier than spade and makes a small diameter hole
