Mortar Rake 8 x 40mm is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 72.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent for precision jobs Used this in combination witht the Erbauer raking blade to clear out loose/debonded mortar in 4 rooms, about 20mt of mortar all in. Shows some sign of wear but still performs well, I will use this again to repoint some areas on the garage. This mortar rake is excellent for precision and getting into areas that the disc cannot and also cleaning up after the initial disc run. Remember this needs a pilot hole and is not a drill. Also wear an appropriate mask goggles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for small areas Been doing a lot of pointing removal which is lime based , very dusty .For long lines of pointing removal i prefer a Turptech pointing removal tool mounted on a angle grinder much more accurate than a blade and more nimble .This item is very good for small areas including all those places you cant get the angle grinder in .Can also be used in a drill (with adaptor) for corners and very tight spaces .good tool to have in toolbox .Tip let the tool do the work dont push it and make sure eye and face protection is worn

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Totally useless This was totally useless for me. Barely scratched the surface.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from not great... slow... so slow! had a side of a house to point and thought I would give this a go as do hate angle grinders..... but sadly on using this for half hour I reverted back to the grinder with diamond disc as it was so much faster. This mortar rake is way to slow, and on checking the tip it was wearing a to quickly. Maybe the mortar was tough in places, but I did find the disc to be a lot quicker, which basically is what you want as who likes standing on scaffold all day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Useful I've used these before and purchased a new one for a small pointing job. They're great if the mortar is old and crumbling but not great if you have some "solid" bits of mortar to remove. To get rid of solid old mortar I use a stubby chisel on my SDS. However these rakes are useful and make short work of removing old mortar to a controllable depth. As a previous reviewer has mentioned you can cut them down once the tip is worn.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 40mm & 100mm Mortar Rakes 40mm rake is a great tool for cleaning out vertical brick joints but very slow on horizontal joints so use a 8mm thick disc as its fast. As the 40mm rake tip wears down it can be cut back with a hack saw it give you 2 x 20mm rakes for the price of one. The 100mm rake is not able to reach the full depth of a brick and will snap if pushed, but it sure makes brick removal easy work without loosening other bricks.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Essential bit There are cheaper mortar rakes out there that look similar but for convenience and customer service I bought this one and it hasn't disappointed. So far, I've raked out 10m2 of soft Victorian pointing and it's done a great job at a good pace but the rake is showing a lot of wear. It's a quick, efficient and safe way to prepare brickwork for repointing.
