Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy to use chainsaw This was a replacement chainsaw for an old one. Very easy to start and maintain, light in weight so easy to use for lengthy periods. Quiet to use In a suburban area, so no annoying the neighbours! Good product - would highly recomend

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Got the job done! Having read quite a few negative reviews I was almost not going to purchase this, but it came with warranty, so I thought I'd try it. My husband has managed to almost deforest an entire section of land behind our barns and spent a good 3 days cutting up some old wood as well, having sawed some through some 12"-14" thick trees and smaller ones. The chain came off whilst doing some smaller branches and was a bit difficult to adjust the tensioner to get it back on, but after that it has been great. But only been using a week, so can't comment long term.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit I've been hand sawing logs for my wood burner for ages, this thing has just transformed the way I feed the hungry log burner. It's quite easy to operate although it does take me a bit to get it going (probably my technique), I think for the price it's a great bit of kit, I wouldn't advise getting anything less powerful if your cutting logs.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of Time and Money I don't usually have the time to leave reviews but I feel it's important to make an exception for this item. The McCulloch CS 400T 40CM 40CC PETROL CHAINSAW is the worst item I have ever bought. It worked for one day when I first bought it and then it's been the bane of my life ever since. It refuses to start and has been this way since I bought it in November 2015. Every part on a chainsaw that can be removed, maintained or replaced - I've removed, maintained or replaced it. I've bought new spark plugs, drained the fuel, got fresh fuel, bought a carburetor adjusting tool, swapped the air filters, sworn at it. I've visited multiple forums and watched hours of YouTube videos on the subject but nothing I do will get this chainsaw started. This isn't the first chainsaw I've had and it really shouldn't be this difficult. Save your time and money and buy any other chainsaw than this one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Melts plastic housing I have got through two of these saws now. If you do more than a few tanks or fuel at once or if the blade is a bit blunt the blade gets too hot and melts the plastic housing. With the first on this happened on the first tank the first time I used it. Took it back and got a refund. With the second one I tried to only do a bit at a time, it lasted a couple of months and then the same thing happened now the chain break doesnt work as the housing is too loose so not really safe to use. Going to pay more money and get something a bit more robust.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not impressed While the chainsaw works well and it cut through trees like butter the chain only lasted about 4 hours before it was blunt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why didn't I buy this before? I'd been using an electric chainsaw for years, put off petrol by worries of difficult starting and cost. I recently borrowed a friend's Stihl machine and had considered something from their range until I read some poor reviews on the lower end machines. Having just used this machine for a couple of days I've been very impressed and it is so much more productive than my old electic saw, easy to start and not too heavy for extended use. When using it hard it can empty its fuel tank quite quickly, but fuel capacity seems about right. The only criticism that I have is that it seems to be heavy on chainsaw oil consumption. You need to refill the oil whenever refuelling and, based on what I've seen so far, it looks as if I could be spending about half as much on chainsaw oil as fuel. The oil consumption is much higher than my old electic chainsaw, although the chain speed is much higher. Clearly after two days I can't comment on long term reliability but, based on my initial experiences, I'd highly recomment it to my friends.
