Rated 5 out of 5 by from quality trap kit Easy to fit, quality components = peace of mind. McAlpine are the best, most reliable, trap components, so don't bother with 'the cheapies'. This kit is perfect for a 1&1/2 bowl sink PLUS up to 2 extra appliance outlets (e.g.washing machine and dishwasher).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nightmare to put together The supplied instructions is a joke. I am not a plumber so no way I would've managed to put it together. I only managed because my old one is exactly the same and it was knocked and broken so I took it in to peaces and looking at the old one I managed to put together a new one. Note to the seller/manufacturer: please produce a normal instructions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product with some downsid The product feels pretty good quality – I have had it working for 24 hours with no leaks. The fitting instructions however are awful and this is the first time I have written a review to criticise the fitting instructions of any product. If you look at the McAlpine website you will see they do not offer customer service or technical help to consumers as they suggest their products should be fitted by professionals. I think we all know thousands of consumers buy their products and it would not hurt them to provide proper instructions, not least because it is the type of product you probably do not install that often as a DIYer and want some reassurance you are doing it right. In addition they are supposed to be proud to be British and you would expect basic instructions from what is supposed to be a world leading British company. The difference with instructions is that it may save you 15 minutes wondering how it works – good for a DIYer and essential for a professional I would have thought. It does come with a basic diagram but it could have so much more info. My tips. Product comes in a cardboard box with 3 bags. Open the big bag first and look at assembling as much of that first before opening the other 2 bags and mixing everything otherwise it will be much more confusing. 2 pipes come with thin washers already on them and these connect to the underside of the sink. There are 2 fat washers and plastic washers – one is used at the end of the P trap (to the external waste pipe) and the other is used on the big appliance connector (essentially the 2 lowest horizontal connections as shown on the Screwfix photo) APPLIANCES: On the smaller appliance connector you can put the blue plug in if not using and then put the white pipe on top to seal. If using that connection take blue rubber out (and store it somewhere for future use). The pointy bit can stay on regardless of whether you are using it or not. On the other appliance connector you either plug it with a cap and the pointy bit is not used or you use the pointy bit and leave the cap off. One way or another one bit will not be used. The remaining 5 washers are the same and should be obvious which goes where. One of the ‘nuts’ is bigger than the rest and this caps off the empty pipe in the middle (as shown on the picture). The other nuts connect the pipes. The 2 pipes at the top measure roughly 21 cm each (21cm up and 21cm across) – so that gives you an idea of reach. The width of the middle section is approx 37 at widest point. The trap is approx 16cm wide and also 16 high from the bottom of the middle section down. Personally I thought the height and length of the pipes was a bit short for a product that is supposed to do what this does (and costs so much) – if you waste is under one bowl you may find the pipes are not long enough to reach to the second bowl (as was in my case) so I had to install it in a slightly different way. Overall good product which does what I want but a bit pricey and poor instructions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works a treat Fitted this in my new kitchen, hooking up to a two bowl Franke sink. Took some head scratching to install as turns up as just a huge bag of loose bits in a box - and most look the same. Its been installed for a year now and has never needed any attention. I have both a dishwasher and washing machine plumbed into it, and my only complaint would be the loud gurgling noises when either of the machines drains.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Time will tell Needed a method to install a new 1 1/2 (The kit that came with the sink would not line up in all the places to allow us to use the existing waste connction point.) bowl sink to existing waste poking out from the ground, did not have much option to modify the waste out of the ground as it had been joined many times before with cemented connections and no more cutting room available. This worked out ideal although a little on the pricey side it has lots of flexibility in positioning which really helped us out so in the end I guess the price was worth it seeing as though if I were to hunt around for all the bits seperate would probably cost me more in pounds and time. Instructions could be better as they don't show the rubber washer positioning so if like me you've not done one before it takes a little while figuring out what washer goes where and so on. Had a tiny weep from one joint but seems to have settled after a little nipping up. Overall I would say this kit is worth it if you have a bit of a headache finding a solution to a problem like ours.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from sink kit Replaced an original problematic kit for a customer with this Mcalpine one. Had to fit behind a sliding drawer which was the obvious problem for the existing kit, and this one did nicely. Very easy to install and works a treat. Not cheap but quality and reassurance does cost nowadays.
