Makita M3601 900W 8mm Router 240V is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Only Just got it I have only just got this router and routed about 300mm of timber. So this will be a pretty pointless review hence the 3 star rating. But Screwfix have decided to pester me into reviewing the blooming thing before I have a decent chance to test it. If I am able and can be bothered I may update this review in a few weeks of thrashing it up and down some timber. Anyway on to the serious bit. The worst part so far is a lack of a carry box to put it and it's associated paraphernalia in. Oh and the little chip deflector guard thingy is wobbly where it is pushed in place and not secured in with a screw. A bit annoying but what do you expect for the price. As for how it works, well it has the 2 spanner system for tightening the collet which seems to work fine and like it says on the tin takes your normal 1/4" bits. The plunge operation works smoothly and the tool fits nicely in the hand without feeling to heavy. The motor sounds smooth and even and the trigger has that proper Blue Makita feel to it. And it cuts nicely without to much cutter speed loss even when burying a whole bevel cutter into the wood. So in conclusion it actually feels like a proper Blue Makita for a fraction of the cost. Will it have the reliability? Well if Screwfix sends me a reminder in a few months I might update this review.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well worth the money I am a hobby and enthusiast woodworker so cost was important to me when looking for a router. Makita's MT or red range is their older models that are now manufactured in China not Japan and that explains the price point, about half the price of the newest model. After reading reviews of the cheapest routers and the adjustment and locking parts shearing off with the first use, that's something I haven't experienced with the MT. Quality parts and a really easy machine to use. Even comes with a free straight cutting bit thrown in. Haven't found the 3/8" collet yet, will have to go find wherever I threw the box and look again! Great value and a quality machine, well worth buying.
