Makita 9403 / 2 4" Belt Sander 240V is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 39.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bit of kit After buying cheaper alternatives, I decided on this unit and glad I did. Used it to sand down some decking which it did with ease. I would recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A BEAST of a sander It's massive, it's heavy - but it's brilliant. It's the perfect machine for removing large amounts of stock in minimal time. Not best suited to overhead or side-on work because of the weight, but as a piece of heavy-duty engineering it's top class. Only downside is that because of the rate of removal, the dust bag fills up very quickly. So it's best used in combination with a proper extractor. Recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extraordinary - Excellent! Beautifully engineered and amazingly effective. I read the reviews and thought I would follow the advice. Easy to use. Effective dust bag. Really fast and efficient, almost effortless sanding and a great finish too. Don't bother looking elsewhere!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets my vote Bought this to refinish some butcher block counter tops at work and wasn't disappointed. It's a heavy bit of kit and packs a punch but it is excellent at removing what you don't need and smoothing down what you do need. Excellent performance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty - Excellent! I've used a number of belt sanders over the years but none of them match up to this, it's a beast and rips through the work in no time. Solid construction and very powerful. Just buy it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very powerful sander. I have used this sander to completely sand down old wooden floorboards. The floorboards were in a poor state, having been covered for years with carpet and were full of of stain/varnish/other general gunk. I was uncertain it would be up to the task as most advice I could find recommended hiring a full blown "walk behind" style belt sander, but after reading success stories on some blogs, I took the plunge and it performed admirably using 40 grit paper for the first pass. It does struggle somewhat with tight spaces, so will still require an edger/detail sander (I have the dewalt one available on this site). I also wouldn't recommend using around radiator pipes as I suspect this has the power to rip right through them should you use your grip. The machine is heavy which is both a blessing (don't have to push down hard whilst sanding) and a curse (knackers you out after periods of long use - take frequent breaks). The dust bag is pretty good - will catch around 80% of dust output I would say. I would also recommend buying replacement pads right off the bat (you can get them online) as after finishing a couple of rooms mine had taken enough of a beating to require changing. For DIYers one word of warning, be extremely careful with the machine at all times, particularly when releasing the power switch as the motor will continue to run at a high speed for several seconds and will gobble up anything in its path if your attention drops. I found this out to my cost and spend the best part of 2 hours dismantling the machine to remove the remnants of my clothing that it had caught as I pulled the machine off the floor after power off!! Presumably the same could happen to its own power cable, so as said, be super careful!
