Makita 8406 / 2 850W Diamond Core Drill 240V is rated 3.4 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Finally got one. Tried to get by without a dedicated core drill for a long time. Finally got fed up of struggling with an SDS drill ,which are just not up to the job of regular core drilling. This Makita does a fantastic job and takes all the stress out of the job.A couple of worthwhile tips for using this drill safely and effectively- don't push hard against the drill or max out the rpm -it's not necessary.Just let the drill do its work at a moderate speed .It will work better with less stress on you and the tool. Secondly, a lot of people report problems when core drilling with drills snatching,Injuring wrists and arms- This is more often than not a result of the operator not holding the drill correctly by the handle and is avoidable if you learn safe drilling techniques. A lot of videos on YouTube show people holding drills incorrectly for core drilling .-there is however one video on Youtube on this subject which is well worth watching. I hope Screwfix site administrators will let me post the following link because it might save some people from serious injury if they follow the advice in this video: https://youtu.be/psvLw1TdAlU

Rated 3 out of 5 by from There's better out there... I bought this just over a year ago to replace a dewalt core drill that I bought here on Screwfix (It broke after using it 8 times 40mm holes), have used the Makita approx 12 times, went to use it today to find that the clutch kept slipping, I ended up finishing off the 110mm core hole with my 36 volt Bosch GBH cordless, not really impressed as i spent €465 on this drill, €380 on the Dewalt, both from screwfix....think i've learned my lesson, will save up to buy a Hilti this time. Very p'd off!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Reasonable Core drill We use these in a plumbing and heating business, the drill itself is good, the handle is hard, no soft grip, care must be taken not to bend the main shaft. The clutch is easily knackered when jammed and operator holds on the motor, must be rocked out. Clutch replacement part is a 1/3 of the cost of a drill but easily replaced. Purchase price here is not good valve.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Makita core drill This is a great core drill , i bought mine from screwfix 5 years ago and it gets used 3/4 times a week , but you must use good quality core bits because the cheaper ones tend to wobble about too much causing the clutch to slip too often . Great Tool.......

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great core drill Brilliant bit of kit. Had mine for a few years now. Gets abused and still powers on. Never had a problem getting through a wall. Clutch doesn't kick in to early, its just perfect. Wouldn't even consider using another brand core drill after this. Always use a decent core set though.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from dont bother I purchased this drill after my last one died, it was the only one they had available at the time. Purchased 11 months ago and the clutch has gone, Makita refuse to repair it! say its not covered by warranty! my £99 rothenberger one lasted 2 years and only died as it got wet! Don't bother with Makita, worst power tools I have ever bought. this cost me £299 at the time so not cheap and now worthless! not happy.
