Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good inseerts I used these to produce a childs climbing frame. They were inserted into end grain in 32mm softwood dowel in a 7mm drilling. Most of the 22 inserts I used held well. Two or three pulled out under load and I fixed them in with expoxy and that did the trick. Later I used them in oak. Here an 8mm drilling was necessary for the hardwood Overall I asked a lot of them and they performed well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did the Job Perfect replacement to repair a hardwood folding chair that's part of a patio set. The internal thread of the original had been damaged, probably during manufacture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hole sizes Used these in a grid pattern on the underside of the board to hold the clamps on a mdf sacrificial board on a CNC machine. I recessed with a 12.5mm dia. by 1.5mm deephole. Lead in hole of 10mm by 4mm deep to ensure an easy start when screwing them in and the actual through holes for the insert of 8.2mm. Perfect fit and a very useful way of easily securing clamps to the top of the board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stronger than you think I used the 20mm insert nut (type D) in conjunction with 50nn joint connection bolts to attach the sides of a bed I was making, I wanted them to be a strong assemble but able to pull apart should the bed require moving its a large solid wood bed and the design was causing fixing issue I used 5 of these at each corner (3 would have done) into soft wood I drilled a 7:5mm hole but in harder material (like resin or in a knot) I would go to 8mm hole...I did snap the top off one trying to go into a knot ... They are much stronger than screws alone

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good but exercise care Good solution for strong and repeat assembly/dismantling in wood. As others have said, the correct size of hole needs to be drilled first. But even so, the head into which the Allen key fits shears easily when screwing these into hardwood. Once broken, the remnant is fiddly to remove!
