Hitachi SB8V2 3" Belt Sander 230V is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice finishing sander Quite a heavy little beast, works very well sanding from a bench however doing something like refinishing a floor its a little harder has a tendancy to "topple" if your not careful this is because most of the weight sits on the left side dust bag. Dust extraction is good and is easy enough to attach to a vacum system, the belt tracking is good and seems to make the belts last well ( I even had to change some cause the grit wore out rather the the belts breaking. Over all n ot a bad peice of kit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Utter piece of rubbish My girlfriend bought this as a birthday present and I didn't want to say anything so I said thankyou. I've been sanding the warped floor back with it in the spare bedroom before my mother comes over next week (new house). After a couple of hrs it struggled now it's ridiculous. I can't even tighten the knob enough to keep the sanding belt on it with pliers. It just throws it off again. Please if your going to spend this kind of money use a name u can trust for 10 plus years get a dewalt or a Makita. I'm going to have to spend alot of money tomorrow to get the job done using a local supplier instead of getting the right tool the first time. BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from good whilst it lasted Bought initially to re-furbish a couple of picnic benches but with a view to being a useful tool that I didn't yet have .... All seemed to be working reasonably well although being quite light it was bouncing around a bit, especially when the join of the Screwfix supplied belts came around. Then, without any warning and after less than 20 minutes total use, it became apparent that although the motor was running the belt was not moving, this was accompanied by the un-mistakeable smell of burning plastic and a worrying amount of smoke from the rear roller area. Further investigation revealed that the drive roller had somehow slipped sideways and come off its' spindle and jammed, the drive spindle was rotating inside the now jammed roller hence the smell of burning plastic ...... and no more drive :( For this reason I cannot recommend it, maybe I was just unlucky but it's going back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Bought and Returned Replaced it with the more expensive Makita I was undecided when I bought this Hitachi. I went for the price after having a van load of tools stollen. I literally turned it on a realised it was rubbish more diy. The unit doesn't feel balanced weighted more on the left hand side theres no weight over the belt which meant it bounced around. A 75mm belt isn't great , and a 1meter cord whats the point I moved sideways and it unplugged itself annoying. if your a professional get the Makita Sorry Hitachi not great. Plus points I did use it for a minute or two it did seem to remove a lot of stock material. but It would be folly to keep it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Ergonomically Designed Sander I was surprised at the weight of this sander, 10 lbs (4.5kg) compared to my old Argos Power Devil brand DIY belt sander which weighed in at 7 lbs. However this is probably typical of pro-tools because they are sturdier and built with heavier component parts. The added weight means that the sander can do it's job under its own weight without requiring additional pressure, so this lessens operator fatigue if a lot of sanding has to be done on e.g. a floor. The tool has good sized non slip hand grips which are comfortable to hold and the power trigger has nice positive action. Tracking is good and there was no drifting outwards/inwards of the belt. The sander is rated at 1020 watts. My power adaptor showed it taking 570 watts on no load rising to over 1020 watts on load so probably only about 500 watts is available as useful power, the rest being converted to heat This however is probably typical of the universal motors in power tools. Other reviewers complained about the short power lead. The cord on my sander was 2.25m long so maybe Hitachi took note and changed this! I don't usually a dust bag on power tools, however the bag and fan were very efficient, with minimal dust blown into the air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value for the money After much searching through many reviews on the net I finally decided on this Hitachi belt sander. First impressions are it feels like a good piece of kit, solid and appears to be well built. I haven't had much opportunity yet to proprerly test it but I am sure it will cut the mustard. One thing I would have liked is for the sander to have a profile where it could be clamped upside down on a bench. I was able to do this with my old sander. Also, to provide only one sanding belt seems a little mean. Having said that I am looking forward to using this sander for many years. Screwfix have once again delivered on the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Belting sander Been using belt sanders for years and have usually bought Makita tools. Had a few problems with Makita recently, poor products and poor service so have decided to switch to Hitachi. Bought a Hitachi SDS drill recently and was so pleased bought this sander. It did an old 12sq yard T&G floor easily, as good as any of my Makita sanders. The shortish lead wasnt really an issue but I found the belts need tracking so they overhang the machine by a couple of mm and a hard case would have been nice Really pleased with its performance and pleased I have found a product that in my view is as good as Makita but far cheaper....
