Codelocks Mechanical Medium Duty Push Button Lock Surface Deadbolt is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Codelock Easy to install, looks and feels good quality. Great price compared to other retailers. Very happy with this item

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it says. Good functional lock, but installation instructions hard to follow and fitting screws too soft. I broke one in the lock just using handtools.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Will not fit 65mm thick doors I would have given this 5* but try as I might, the screws are too short to fit to a 65mm thick door. With the neoprene seals fitted, there's about 3mm of thread available and this is not enough to engage into the lock body. In the end I shaved the mounting point on my garden gate down to 60mm and it was fine. Had this been a proper door or for a client then this would have been a problem. Contrary to the description, the lock is coded as 5 digits from the factory (4 numbers and 1 letter) but there are parts supplied to use a 4, 5 or 6 digit code (any combination of the 10 numbers and 3 letters)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Simple to fit, well built A simple to fit lock which seems well built. Fitted to an outside gate so time will tell how well it withstands weather from both sides. Good value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great - But cld be even better I don't believe in marking a product down for features it never promised, and this is a good quality lock that functions well and fulfills its description. However, although this is just a medium duty lock, I feel that there is a basic design flaw. While the functionaity of the lock is great for access control, there are simply two 5mm screw bolts connecting the back plate to the front plate. If someone smashes off the front plate with a hammer, the back plate will simply drop to the floor, along with the deadbolt. As the strength of the lock seems pretty good and the building I use it on has an outward-opening door (hard to kick-in), I have opted to drill through the back plate and secure it to the door so that even if the front of the lock is hammered off, it would still take some intricate work with some pliers on the (now probably broken) spindle. Codelocks, please can you make it so that by default even if the front plate is smashed off, it can still keep the door secured?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not great by any means Not sure why so many say this is an easy to install lock as this is definitely not for the faint hearted. I do lots of trades and just recently finished building a 7ft fence with two large gates. This was for the gates. This lock is so fiddly you need three hands and has taken almost 2 hours. Firstly because you have to use the correct size drills 8mm and 13mm which is not in everyone's tool kit. I had to revisit screwfix, why can they not tell you in the product description tools needed. Mines was a surface deadbolt and if your gates are even just a slight bit off and any tension on the lock whilst closed, that's it the lock jams. You then have to unscrew the lock from the closed side to get it off again. Thinking that the issue was with the screws that hold it onto the gates being too tight. If you over tighten them then it stops the spindle from turning due to the spindle being too long. I decided to reduce the spindle size as advised for doors under 50 mm. Then it just did not work as the spindle with the 15mm removed did not marry into both ends of the locks front and back. I did have a spindle from another attempt from a different product which I then used as a replacement. So it's working but it jams and does not always open from either side. Box contains packers to make the handles sit out a bit from the flush of the wood for this very reason but still catches on tension when closed. Gate has to be perfectly mounted and flush with each other. The mechanism to move the deadbolt on the open side of the gate install is dubious. After you have assembled it for what door opening you have, left or right. This is where I feel the product fails the deadbolt slider is less than a quality piece of engineering. Not to forget you have to hacksaw the fixing nuts depending on what thickness the gate/door is. Changing the code you have to remove the back and play with metal tumblers. Puting the two parts together on the door is fiddly if the holes are not perfect you've had it and the rubber seals just get in the way and move and fall. Going to try and get a refund and go online for a better one as many are similar in design. Might just have been me but I'm pretty good with most things this was just a bit of a PITA install where everything has to be perfect and no deviation room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Forget your keys Bought this for my side gate as i was fed up with not being able to get in when i wanted. Bit fiddly to fit but works a treat. Window cleaner uses it to get in instead of climbing over the gate!!
